Which Instagram fields accept styled text

Your display name, bio, captions, comments, story text and highlight titles all accept these characters — paste and they appear exactly as generated. Your @username does not: Instagram restricts it to letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so a styled handle is not possible.

The bio is limited to 150 characters and the name field to 30. Styled letters from the mathematical block can consume two of those characters each, so a bio that fits in plain text may be cut short once styled. If you run out of room, small caps and spaced capitals are cheaper than script.

Keep yourself findable

Instagram search matches your username and your name field. If your name is written entirely in script, someone typing the plain spelling may not find you. The practical compromise is a plain or lightly styled name field and the decorative styling in the bio, where discovery does not depend on it.

The same applies to hashtags. A hashtag only works if it is plain text — a styled hashtag is just decoration and will not be clickable or indexed.

Building a bio that reads well on a phone

Instagram bios are read on a narrow screen in one glance. A workable structure is one styled line for identity, one plain line for what you do, then a plain line for the call to action. Mid dots or a thin divider separate items far more cleanly than a wall of emoji, and they cost only one character each.

Add line breaks by typing your bio in a notes app and pasting it in, or by editing from a desktop browser — that behaviour is unrelated to the text style itself.
